Zagrodnik and Thomas Architects
Mission Bay High School was one of many San Diego schools to receive modernization and expansion through voter initiative Prom MM. In this case expansion included a new library building of about 9,000 square feet, which included two specialized classrooms as well as upgraded technology. My role was Project Architect, taking the project from its very inception through the end of construction.
Dental Office for Dr. Lorrilee Weller, El Cajon, California
Zagrodnik and Thomas Architects
This building is located in the Downtown El Cajon historic district. The building is a single-story, 2300 square-foot structure and sits on a narrow, corner lot that was previously vacant. In keeping with the urban character of the district, the building is pushed to the street front and parking is tucked behind. The building draws inspiration from El Cajon's historic Main Street in its rhythmic bays, suspended canopies and use of materials. Large street level windows with tile wainscot provide a pedestrian friendly streetscape.
Casa del Desierto Harvey House--Tenant Improvement, Barstow, California
Robbins Jorgensen Christopher
Located on the old Santa Fe/Atchison/Topeka railroad line, this hotel and depot was one of the numerous Harvey Houses located throughout the southwestern states. Built in the 1880's through the early 1900's, the Harvey Houses provided fine dining and civilized surroundings for railroad passengers traveling west. As automobile travel grew more popular, this depot, like many others, fell into disuse and disrepair. Following the Landers earthquake, Robbins Jorgensen Christopher worked on the restoration and seismic retrofit. The building remained vacant, until the city officials decided to use a portion of the building for their offices. I worked with the client and the principal in charge from the early programming stage through the bidding phase.

Ginty House/Kroenert House, San Diego, California
Robbins Jorgensen Christopher
The Ginty and Kroenert houses are two of the few original buildings to remain in the historic Cortez Hill neighborhood. Most gave way to multi-family housing, and it appeared these two would suffer the same fate. However, the city intervened and required that the developer rehabilitate both buildings. Using the Secretary of the Interior's Standards of Rehabilitation as our guide, our firm defined a scope of work and determined the extent to which current building codes applied.

We were hired to design a 19,000 square foot classroom and administration building. My role involved code research, permitting, and production of contract documents.
